Local Scholarships

AAUW San Ramon believes in giving back to the community and in helping girls and women pursue their educational goals. The branch raises funds for scholarships for local high school seniors and for the Renaissance Scholars program at Cal State East Bay.

Our branch is offering scholarships to graduating senior girls from California, Dougherty Valley, and Venture high schools.

  • Applicants must be planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university in the fall of 2021.
  • Applications will be evaluated on the basis of scholarship, educational goals, and campus and community involvement.

2020 High School Scholarship Recipients

The 2020 scholarship recipients have been selected! We gave $1,000 scholarships to six outstanding young women from our two San Ramon high schools. The quality of applicants continues to be strong, with this year’s recipients presenting a wide range of skills and interests. They have demonstrated significant academic skills as well as accomplishments in athletics, art, music, science, and leadership. Several have also been very involved in community volunteer or social activities while working part-time jobs.

As with everything this year, our process for selecting our High School Scholarship recipients was different in many ways:

Interviews: Since we were not able to do in person contacts, we did a paper screening and then selected six recipients for our $1,000 scholarships.

Zoom meetings: Julie Gin, Loranne Weir, and I were able to meet with each recipient to congratulate them personally and to gain more personal information as we generally do during the individual interviews.

Home visits: The three of us visited to each of the recipient’s homes (we maintained “social distance” and wore our masks) to meet with them and present them with some congratulatory “goodies” along with the informational paperwork required for our organization and their university. This took the place of our celebration dinner that they would have been invited to.

We are pleased that we are able to support these very deserving young women. To read about each young woman please refer to our June newsletter.
